- Convenience: Whenever it’s time to eat or brush your teeth, you can simply take your trays off and put them back when you’re done.
How Invisalign® Works
Every Invisalign treatment begins with a consultation. After examining your mouth and discussing your goals, Dr. Stephen Hale will let you know if Invisalign would be a good fit for you or your child. After you agree to move forward, he’ll take impressions of the teeth as well as a few X-rays. These will be used to design the treatment, helping Dr. Hale find the most efficient way to move the teeth to their desired positions. This plan will be sent to an Invisalign lab to create the trays. When they are ready, you’ll return to our dental office to pick them up.
A patient will typically wear one set of trays for about 20-22 hours a day for two weeks before progressing to the next set. Each new set of trays brings someone a step closer to their final result. To help the treatment go as fast as possible, a patient should only take their trays out while eating or cleaning their teeth.
Once a patient has worn all of their trays, they should see a perfectly straight smile in the mirror, and then they’ll be given a retainer to wear to ensure their new shifted teeth stay in place for decades to come.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?
There are numerous factors that contribute to the time it takes to complete Invisalign treatment. This includes the severity of your misalignment and how well you keep up with your treatment plan. Generally, it will take anywhere from 12 to 18 months to get the final results that you’re looking for. However, if you only have a mild case of misalignment, it could take as little as 6 months. While 18 months may seem like a while, it is still 6 months shorter than the average treatment time with traditional metal braces.
Is Invisalign Cheaper than Braces?
No two smiles are the exact same, so neither are the treatment plans. Whether you choose Invisalign or braces, the cost will vary based on several different factors, including the severity of your misalignment. Most of the time, Invisalign costs are similar to traditional braces, but your oral health, commitment to the treatment plan, and misalignment issue will affect this. Some dental insurance plans offer at least partial coverage for Invisalign, so check with your provider to learn more.
Can You Get Invisalign After Braces?
Many patients opt for Invisalign to correct misalignment issues after they have had traditional braces in the past. However, this will all depend on your individual case. Braces are better able to correct more severe orthodontic issues. If your teeth have become crooked or misalign years after you’ve completed treatment with braces, Invisalign can usually be an ideal treatment option. To learn if Invisalign is right for you, schedule a consultation.
Who is a Candidate for Invisalign?
When you are deciding whether or not Invisalign is a good treatment option, there are numerous factors to consider. Because the jaw and teeth are constantly changing from your childhood to teenage years, children under the age of 13 don’t usually make good candidates. You must wear the aligners for at least 20 hours a day for the best results, so patients who are younger or not as responsible may want to consider traditional braces instead. As for misalignment issues, Invisalign can be used to correct teeth that are crooked, gapped, crowded, and misaligned. If you have severe misalignment issues, you may need to undergo traditional orthodontic treatment instead.
