Skilled Texas City, TX Dentist
Get to Know Alyson Nguyen
Dr. Nguyen has been practicing dentistry for over two full decades, and her passion for the work continues to grow with time. She loves meeting new patients and building relationships that leave them feeling more comfortable and confident about going to the dentist’s office regularly! If you’d like to learn more about her, just keep reading below.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Growing up as a first-generation immigrant from Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen saw how much her parents struggled to make a living in the United States. They were shrimpers, which meant they left before the sun came up and didn’t come home until night fell. Clothing and feeding such a big family (she was the youngest of 10 kids) was also a daily challenge. Growing up in that environment, Dr. Nguyen knew that she wanted to one day have a career that would enable her to take care of her loved ones financially while also still allowing her free time to spend with them.
During her junior year of college, Dr. Nguyen shadowed her sister-in-law, who worked as a dentist. She truly enjoyed the experience, especially when she got to meet and interact with the wonderful patients. She soon realized that dentistry merged her two passions (talking to people and helping people) into one career, and her mind was made up from there!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
After graduating from the University of Houston, Dr. Nguyen pursued her dental doctorate at the University of Texas Dental Branch. In the years since, she has pursued continuing education whenever possible to further elevate her skills, including specific focuses on LANAP, Invisalign, dental implants, BOTOX, conscious sedation dentistry, endodontics, sleep medicine, pedodontics, oral surgery, and more.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Nguyen and her husband Nhan have three children named Benjamin, Noah, and Bethany. Outside of dentistry, she really enjoys traveling with her family, especially taking cruises because it allows them to visit multiple places in one trip. Her favorite cruise was an Alaskan cruise, and her favorite city so far to visit is Vancouver. Now that the kids are older and more seasoned travelers, they look forward to going overseas eventually. Volunteering is also a really important part of her life. The family is active in their church – St. Bernadette Catholic Church – and also regularly helps out at the local food pantry.
As for personal hobbies, Dr. Nguyen likes to read to decompress, especially romance books, self-help books, and memoirs. She tries to work out on a regular basis and also regularly runs half marathons with her nephew and brother in different cities. Additionally, she’s completed one full marathon and the Tough Mudder race, which was a blast! Her truly guilty pleasures are playing Candy Crush and watching reality TV.
