Are you unsatisfied with gaps, crooked teeth, and misalignment issues? Do you dream of having a straight, gorgeous grin to show off to the world? With Invisalign, that dream can become a reality! These clear aligners can be used to fix a range of orthodontic issues and give you a smile you’ll love. But just like with most dental treatments, Invisalign is a process. Read on for the step-by-step Invisalign treatment process so you can determine if you’re interested in moving forward.
Step #1: Your Initial Consultation
The first step in the Invisalign treatment process is to set up a consultation with your dentist. During this appointment, they will take X-rays and do a thorough examination of your teeth. This will allow them to determine the severity of your orthodontic issues so the two of you can work together to determine the best way to achieve your smile goals.
Step #2: Planning Your Invisalign Treatment
Once your dentist has determined whether you’re a candidate for Invisalign, they will start to plan out your treatment plan. They will take impressions of your teeth so that all your aligner sets can be made. Each set will represent a different step in the treatment process. Your dentist will also let you know how long they expect the procees to take.
Step #3: Getting Your Aligners
Once your dentist has received your aligners, they’ll have you come back into their office to make sure they fit your mouth properly. They will also show you the proper way to care for your aligners and how to store them. Adjustments will be made if necessary to make sure that your aligners fit comfortably. if you have any questions before you go home to start your treatment, this is the perfect time to ask them.
Step #4: Wearing Your Aligners
For Invisalign to be effective, your aligners will need to be worn for 20-22 hours per day. Make sure to keep up with your oral hygiene to avoid cavities. Make sure to remove your trays any time you eat or drink anything other than water to prevent stains and damage. You may want to brush and floss more often to remove food particles and plaque from your teeth before you put your aligners back on.
Step #5: Periodic Checkups
Every six weeks or so, your dentist will have you come in for checkups. These appointments are usually short and will let them examine your progress. This is also when you’ll receive your next few sets of aligners.
Step #6: Finishing Treatment & Your Retainer
Once you’ve completed treatment, your dentist will give you a custom-made retainer to keep your teeth from moving back to their previous positions. They’ll let you know how often they need to be worn to preserve your progress.
Though the process may look a bit daunting, Invisalign makes straightening your smile and taking good care of your pearly whites easy. Just follow your dentist’s instructions, and you’ll have a gorgeous grin in no time!
